Justin Welby paid a public tribute to his mother today, days after her she was laid to rest. 

Speaking on the Thought for the Day slot on Radio 4’s Today Programme, the Archbishop of Canterbury revealed that Lady Jane Williams’s funeral took place on Tuesday. 

He said he ‘loved her and will miss her very deeply’ as he also remembered the late Queen Elizabeth II on the first anniversary of her death.

The Archbishop, who led the Queen’s funeral proceedings last year, said the monarch ‘gave us hope’.

Lady Williams passed away aged 93 in July after what her son described as a ‘remarkable life’, which saw her work as a secretary for Winston Churchill from 1949 until 1955.
